Why you must update your wardrobe…now!

WHY SHOULDN’T OLDER WOMEN BE INTIMIDATED ABOUT CHANGING THEIR STYLE?

“Being concerned with how you look and being a part of the wider world in terms of style and fashion, is another way of embracing life. If you’ve been wearing the same style, or haven’t had a style for many years, you’re stuck in a style rut. Perhaps you’ve become invisible to those around you, which can’t help on the job, in your social circle or with your self esteem. You can do something about it, find a renewed sense of well being, and start receiving compliments and kudos.”

WHAT SHOULD OLDER WOMEN ABSOLUTELY DO WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR STYLE?

“I think we all can agree that when we look good, we feel good, and that this becomes even more true as we age. Looking and feeling good help us exercise some control over our lives when it might seem like our health, fitness and appearance are beginning to fall apart. It’s certainly a personal choice as to how much we want to fight aging versus fully embracing it, but no one can argue that the desire to put your best face forward is natural and admirable. So, when it comes to style, you’re making a mistake if you don’t consider taking these five essential actions:

1. Start at the top: Make sure your hairstyle is as flattering now as it was when you first began wearing it. You might consider cutting your hair or even growing it out for a new you.  Hair color is a great way to change up your look, and covering gray makes a huge difference. There’s no denying gray hair makes us look older. But even if you refuse to start down that path,  a chic, beautifully cut hair style makes all the difference.

2. Update your makeup: Makeup trends change just like clothing trends, and wearing the same makeup look you sported years ago can really date you. Get a makeover at a place like Sephora, Ulta, or at the department store counter of a brand you like. Be vocal about how you live and like to look so you don’t end up with a look that doesn’t feel like you.

3. Consider a style overhaulIf you’ve been feeling a little out of it in terms of your wardrobe, ask a stylish friend for help or even consider hiring a personal shopper like me to help jumpstart your style update. A personal shopper can work with you to organize your closet, identify what you need, define a new look for you and accompany you to shop for it. It could be one of the best investments you’ll make!

4. Discover a new scent: If you’ve been wearing the same scent for years, changing it up can be a surprising way to get out of a style rut. Yes, how you smell is part of your style!  Even if you have what you think of as a signature scent, it’s fun to try something new and different. Plan to spend some time discovering your perfect new scent.

5. Let technology help update your style: Many amazing and entertaining apps are easy to download and can help you do everything from organizing your closet to trying on makeup, and it’s a low commitment form of style upgrade. You might just find the app that really helps you discover a new you.
